Mary Ruth Stover Parker, died October 5, 2010 at Carmel Hills Christian Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC.
Born in Cleveland, GA, Mrs. Parker was the daughter of the late Marion Alford and Kitty Louella Dorsey Stover.
She resided in Greenville most of her life, until in 2006, she moved to Charlotte, NC. Mary was employed in sales at Belk Department Store for 40 years where she worked in the cosmetic department and particularly enjoyed serving her customers. While there she won several awards as an outstanding sales associate.
Mrs. Parker was a member of Overbrook Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class. She loved her church and especially the ladies in her class.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Sandra Lanier and husband Richard of Charlotte, NC; daughter-in-law, Nancy Parker of Silver Springs, MD; grandchildren, Brian Lanier, Kimberly Barnette, Chris DeYoung, Michael Godfrey, Robin Wheeler, Debbie Twining, Susan Miles, Michael Parker; and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Parker; sons Robert and James Parker; five brothers and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Overbrook Baptist Church, 1705 E. North St., Greenville, SC 29607 or Carmel Hills Christian Retirement Community Residents Assistance Fund, 2801 Carmel Rd., Charlotte, NC 28226.
The family will receive friends at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home on Friday, October 8, 2010 from 12:45 to 2 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family extends special thank you to Dr. Joseph Whalen, the staff at Mint Hill Family Medical Practice and the staff at Carmel Hills Christian Retirement Community for their compassion, love and outstanding care they provided Mary during her illness.
