Gladys Martha Fager 99 of Pendleton and Irrigon, formally of LaGrande, died Wednesday February 16, 2011. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Island City Cemetery, Island City Oregon.


Mrs. Fager was born March 15, 1911 in Natoma Kansas to Mason Wright and Amy Viola True. When she was an infant the family moved to Aurora Colorado where she grew up and attended school. In 1926 the family moved to LaGrande where she resided until she moved to Pendleton in 1995.


She met and later married Clarence Marquis in April of 1931 and they later divorced. In August of 1947 she married Fred L. Fager. She was a homemaker for most of her life raising children through the depression and war years. After her marriage to Fred, she raised a second family with him, and took to his passion for hunting and fishing loving the outdoors and always eager to go camping. In her spare time she enjoyed crochet and the family all have their special afghans made by her hands.


She is survived by her daughters, Thelma Ansell of LaGrande, Maxine Easley of Bend, Carol Hall of Pendleton. Sons, Raymond Marquis of Irrigon and Robert Marquis of Carlton. 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Fred, daughter Shirley Reno, her parents, Mason and Amy True, 2 brothers Albert and Alvin True, and sister Lorena Stoop.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the John Vance Hospice program in Hermiston Oregon or a Hospice of your choice.
