Esther A. Hammond, age 97, a resident of Burlington died Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Life Care of Skagit Valley.

She was born July 13, 1913 on Lopez Island, a daughter of Charles Lee and Dorothy Burt Lee. She was baptized at the Center Congregational Church on Lopez Island, and attended the Center School there.

Her marriage to Harrold Hammond took place September 19, 1933, on Lopez Island. In 1946 she moved to Burlington.

Her hobbies included making stuffed animals for hospitalized children, and crocheting for the United General Hospital Gift Nook.

Surviving are one daughter, Lola Hartley, of New Mexico; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Carlyn Hammond, of Birdsview; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; three sisters, Betty Goodrow, Marie Crowley and Grace Smith.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Burlington Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington.
