Reg, & Co. 1 Drag K (Dragoons) Volunteer, by Duncan Walker, Middletown, Ct.

Talcott Goff, farmer, 28 yrs. old, 5'8", born in Haddam, Enlisted Jan 1, 1837 in Middletown,Ct., enrolled by Duncan, for 3 yrs, Regiment and Co.1 Drag K (Dragoons) Fort Wayne, Indian Territory.

At Fort Wayne they were to protect the Indians from the white settlers going on their lands. The fort was occupied from 1838 to 1843, the Commandant was Captain Nathan Boone, a son of Daniel Boone, the Kentucky pioneer.
Due to a high death rate from malaria, they decided to abanden the fort in 1843, and turn it over to the Cherokees.

We do not know if Talcott died at Fort Wayne or at home in Middletown, Ct.

Heads of the family were only listed until 1850.

There is a gravestone in Lakeview Cemetery,
E. Hampton, Ct. that appears to be his.

Gott died April 15, 1839 age 31.
The name has worn off now.
