The farm where Bettie, James, and Mildred are buried once was part of the land grants of James Arnold, son of Stephen Arnold and Jane Finney. James had built a two-story cabin there, and at the time, the area was considered to be located in the wilderness. Later, Arnold's Ferry was operated there crossing the river to Glenn's Creek. It later became known as Cardwell's Landing and today, this area is known as Muholland's Beach by the locals.
