Wellington Leader January 22, 1976

Beatrice Archie, 29-year-old Wellington woman, was arraigned Monday morning, January 19, on a murder charge growing out of the shooting death of her former husband, Tol R. Kilgore, Jr., which occurred Sunday night.

The shooting occurred outside a café in Northeast Wellington, in the old Booker T. Washington School. Kilgore and Mrs. Archie were inside the café about 10:30 p.m. and everything was smooth. He asked her to come outside, he wanted to talk to her and the two left together. There was no argument inside, those present, told officer.

Kilgore, 53, was shot near the corner of one eye with a .22 caliber handgun, although officers were still hunting the murder weapon on Monday. He lived a short time after being taken to Collingsworth General Hospital.

The couple were divorced in late 1975, according to the sheriff. Kilgore was a year round employee of Farmers Co-Op Gin.

Tol Robert Kilgore, Jr., was born January 1, 1923 at Arcadia, LA and came here with his parents, Mrs. Maude Eva Kilgore and the late Tol R. Kilgore, 50 years ago.

He was a veteran of World War II and a Baptist. He worked for Lancer Mobile Homes in Childress several years before going to work at the gin.

Survivors are his mother; two sons, Robert Kilgore and Joseph Kilgore, and three grandchildren, all of Wellington.
