Chico Record, Tuesday Morning, October 18, 1932, pg 2, col 5: Death Takes Mary E. Crew. Ending several years of illness, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Crew, known in this area for her charitable work, died yesterday at the home of her son near Hamilton City at the age of 66 years.
Funeral services are to be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church tomorrow at 10 a.m. when Fr. J.B. Dermody will celebrate high mass. Rosary will be sung tonight at 8 o'clock in the Bicknell & Moore Chapel. Interment will be in the Chico Cemetery.
A past grand president of the Catholic Ladies Relief Society of The Sacramento Diocese in 1927 and 1928, Mrs. Crew gained many friends throughout the Sacramento Valley. She had been active in charitable undertakings for many years previous to her illness.
Mrs. Crew was the widow of Henry W. Crew, former Chico druggist who died here March 4, 1928. She was born in San Francisco and had spent the greater part of her life in northern California.
Death came at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Ms. Joseph M. Billiou. Other relatives surviving are four step-daughters and one step-son. They are Mrs. George Littlefield, Colusa, Mrs. E.M. Seyhorn and Mrs. J.A. Hoover of Willows, Mrs. R.F. McCune of Oroville, and R.J. Billiou of San Jose.
