Louisa Sarah Loomis, the daughter of Austin Russel Loomis and Ellen Nessel, was born Aaugust 1 1847 in Fond du Lac County WI.. Her beau, Elmer Haskin went off to the Civil War in September of 1864 being discharged in June of 1865..After his discharge from the army, Elmer had an accident when his gun misfired and he lost his right eye he also wanted to establish himself on the farm. Louisa and Elmer waited to wed until July 31, 1868. Two children were born to this union: Leon Osmar Haskin March 24 ,1869 and Effie Elinor Haskin born September 29 1871. Because of the eye injury and the privations endured in the war Elmer died and early death November 11,1874.
Louisa faced with widowhood and the difficulty of raising two small children married Caleb Watson Brigham, the widowed husband of Elmer's sister, Elizabeth Haskin ( born 1839-died January 12 1875)
May 29, 1876. Caleb was raising 5 children alone since the death of his wife. The combined family then had both a mother and father. The children did not always get along and each parent sided with their own children. The marriage had some rocky times but the couple endured.
