OBITUARY from the Tahlequah Citizen newspaper - March 7, 1946
ELMER WOODS FATALLY INJURED BY FALLING LOG
Elmer Woods, 40 year-old prominent farmer of the Peggs community died at the City hospital Sunday afternoon from injuries received when a log rolled from a truck and pinned him underneath it.
The accident happened at his farm two miles East of Peggs, Friday afternoon when he was loading logs which had been placed on the truck. One of the logs which had been placed on the truck rolled off, and penned (sic) him underneath it, hitting him in the body. He was taken to the hospital here for treatment, where he died Sunday afternoon.
Woods was born at Colcord in 1905 and had lived in the Peggs community all of his life.
Funeral services were held at Peggs Wednesday afternoon with Rev. McKinney of Hulbert officiating, and burial in the City cemetery here.
Surviving are his widow, Gladys, and three children, Billie and Nadine all of Peggs; three brothers, Roy, Claude, and Clarence Woods; and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Ford and Mrs. Audrey Moore, all of Tahlequah.
-----------------------------------------------
NOTE - The part of this obituary which says he "lived in the Peggs community all of his life" is not correct. His 1910 and 1920 census records show he lived at least the first 17 years of his life in Delaware County, Oklahoma (Peggs is in Cherokee County). This obituary also says he had three children and yet listed the names of only two children. This obituary also reported that he was born in 1905, when he was actually born in 1903. Last, but not least, this obituary also got his age wrong. It listed his age, twice, as 40, when he was actually about 42 1/2 years old when he died.
