A PROBABLY FATAL FALL
W.B. YOUNG HAS A NARROW ESCAPE FROM INSTANT DEATH

Thursday's Portland Daily Telegram: W. Benson Young and wife registered at the Quimby house yesterday afternoon from Eugene and were assigned a room on the fourth floor in the back part of the building. Mrs. Young went away during the day and her husband went out for a good time, it being his first day in town for some time.

Young returned to the hotel about midnight, and after lingering around for some time, attendants showed him to his room. He was considerably the worse off from over-indulgence in variety show whisky, but it was thought he would be able to retire himself, so no more attention was paid him.

Nothing was heard of Young until between 2:30 and 3 o'clock this morning, when his limp body was found in the back yard within six inches of a picket fence. Had he struck this he would have been impaled, and this would be probably have been a mortuary, instead of and accident notice. Young had evidently fallen from the window while leaning out in an attempt to relieve his stomach from its liquid load.

The injured man was immediately removed to Good Samaritan hospital, where it was found that besides a fractured shoulder blade he had sustained a communited fracture of the right thigh. Inquiry at the hospital early this afternoon elicited the reply that while Young's case is regarded as critical he is getting along nicely, and if he is not internally injured, will recover.

YOUNG IN CRITICAL CONDITION
Today's Oregonian says: W.B. Young, the young man who jumped out of a fourth story window from the Quimby House at an early hour yesterday morning is very low. He is at Good Samaritan hospital and it is not thought that he can possibly recover. At a late hour last night his condition was such that death would not surprise his friends or the attending physician at any time. His right leg is broken below the knee, and both shoulder blades are dislocated. In addition to these injuries he is injured internally. Mr. Young's father is a well-known and influential stockman living near Eugene.
