Russell Rigney, Jr., 83, died Thursday, February 10, 2011, at his residence.
Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2011, in Tye Cemetery, Tye, Texas, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Russell was born November 30, 1927 to Mima (Clark) and Russell Rigney, Sr. in Kenbir, Kentucky. He married Mildred Cridlin on November 5, 1948 in Harlan, Kentucky. Russell served his country in the United States Air Force as a Civil Engineer and Quality Control Inspector for 21 years, retiring in March, 1972 as a Master Sergeant. He served in Korea, Japan, and Vietnam. Russell and Mildred moved to Abilene in 1968. Since retiring from the Air Force, Russell was employed by El-Tye-O Mobile Homes as a co-manager with his wife. He also was in charge of maintenance. Russell was a member of the V.F.W. 6873 - Air Force Sergeant Association and was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill Rigney and Edmond Rigney; and a sister, Reba Simpson.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Vivian Rigney of Tye, Texas and his son, Randy Russell Rigney of Tye.
