Funeral for John Wesley Amyett, 89, Italy's oldest citizen and for more than fifty years a well-known resident of Ellis County, was held Wednesday. Burial was in the Italy Cemetery. Born in Calhoun County, Mississippi, near Granada, Jan. 1, 1859, he came to Ellis County in 1869, locating near the present town of Palmer. On Oct. 22, 1893, he was married to Miss Julia E. Hughin and in 1907 he moved to Italy where he made his home since.
Surviving are his wife and four children, Miss Katy Amyett, Italy; Mrs. Leta Amyett Ward, Italy; Mrs. Winnie Amyett Boyd, Alvin; and one son, Jesse Amyett, a World War veteran of Biloxi, Miss.
