Wife of John Cobane Laport, found in the 1910 US Census in Wetumka, Hughes County, Oklahoma with son Willie Laport (age 13)when John was 48 and Jennie was 53. They had been married 16 years (abt 1894). There were also two children from Jennies first marraige living with them: Malinda May Marston (age 20) and John Marston (age 17).

Jennie and her first husband, Thomas J. Marston, arrived in Oklahoma, I.T., about 1888, first in Eufaula and then on to Wetumka which was only an Indian Trading Post at that time. Wetumka was named after Wetumpka, AL, but the letter "p" was dropped from the spelling. Jennie was 1/8th Creek Indian and she and all of her children received 160 acres of land allotment in the area. They are listed on the 1899 Dawes Creek Indian Roll as follows:

NOTE ABOUT JOHN COBANE LAPORT:

John Cobane Laport was born 6 May 1859, near Millersburg, Iowa County, Iowa, and died 5 June 1954 in Wetumka, Hughes County, Oklahoma. He came to the Oklahoma Indian Territory about 1888. He was working in the logging industry when he became friends with Thomas W. Marston and his wife Jennie M. (Nee Mastin). Thomas Marston died in 1891 and in about 1895 John and Jennie were married. At this time they were living in the Mission Bottom approximately 4 miles east of Wetumka. Jennie who was 1/8th Creek Indian had received 160 acres of land allotment and they were farming this. After the turn of the century in 1908, they sold the farm and bought property at 420 North Main Street in Wetumka where they had a two story house built. Wetumka had moved in 1900 to the new location about one mile west of Old Wetumka, to be on the rail line. John became envolved in the city civic affairs and was Mayor at one time. He also served as the Justice of the Peace for about 15 years and was thereafter known as "Judge" Laport. He was a life long Democrat and served as the County Representative for his party. John was active in a number of lodges and was the first Master of the Wetumka Masonic Lodge # 197 in 1907, when Oklahoma become a state.

He was also a 32nd Degree Mason in both the York and Scottish Rites taking his degrees in the Temple at McAlister, Oklahoma. He was also active in the Eastern Stars . He Joined the Odd Fellows Lodge and became active in the Rebecca's. He was a devout Methodist untill his death in 1954.
