OBITUARY

Ivanhoe Justin Fletcher Smith was born August 25, 1829 in Edinburg, Indiana, and lived there until he was 18 years of age when he went to Montrose, Iowa and there married Laura Eliza Bishop who was also a Presbyterian. To this union were born five children, all living at the present time.
Hiram S. of Los Angeles, Cal., Charles A. of Moriarty, New Mexico, Ellen M. of Perry, Okla., Sarah T. of Ft. Madison, Iowa, William H. of Enid, Okla.
Three years after the death of his wife he married Dorcas Maria Cunningham formerly of Ohio.
While living in Montrose he held the office of city clerk and justice of the peace.
He was republican in politics, and in 1864 was elected 2nd Lieut. of "The Montrose Rangers" Lee County Militia. He also drilled every soldier from the county who entered the Civil war.
He moved to Ft. Madison, Ia., and was connected with the prison staff officers nearly thirteen years, also being a teacher in the prison Sunday school.
He afterwards moved to What-Cheer, Iowaand was in the grocery business, in partnership with his sons for nine years. At this place he helped to erect the first Presbyterian church, which afterwards was burned, a second one being built. He held the office of elder in this church.
Twenty-three years ago he came to Perry, Oklahoma and lived on a farm west of town until he moved to town and had the house built at 1019 F street, beautifying the grounds with trees, shrubbery and flowers, which became known as "the Rose Garden" and was pronounced by friends to be the prettiest in Perry.
He moved to 817 6th street five years ago, his health failing in October 1917, and died on the night of April 13th, which was Saturday. Three weeks before his death he was stricken with paralysis.
He bore his sickness with fortitude and christian patience in the faith of his Savior and we trust he has a happy reunion with loved ones gone before.
Rev. Nicols of Guthrie conducted the services. The hymns selected were "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Asleep in Jesus."
