Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, in Leffler Poulson Funeral Home in Benton, with Ron Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Williams Chapel Cemetery in Ewing. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Shew was born Aug. 4, 1923, in Benton, the daughter of Fred and Jennie (Holman) Thomason. She married James Samuel Shew, and he preceded her in death Dec. 5, 1991.
Loretta worked for 20 years at the Joan Claire Dress Factory in Benton. She was a devoted member of Church of Christ in West City, and was a "loving mother and grandmother."
Survivors include a daughter, Diana and husband, Larry Lipe, of Herrin; a son, James Richard "Dick" Shew and wife, Cathy, of Nashville; four grandchildren, Amy and husband, Dan Bosch, of Columbia, Matthew Shew and wife, Lynnette, of Nashville, Michael Durham of Macedonia, Wade Durham and wife, Angie, of Thomasville, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Caroline and Braxton Bosch of Columbia, Grayson and Cassie Durham of Thomasville, Ga., two stepgreat-grandchildren, Logan and Lacey Gill of Nashville; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Shew was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers, P. Cecil Thomason, Raundle Thomason, Owen Thomason, William Thomason, Benny Thomason; and three sisters, P. Velma Bradley, Lois Briley, and Mildred Coleman.
Memorial contributions may be made to Church of Christ of West City and will be accepted at the funeral home.
