PHELPS, Wis. — Joyce Ann Hurd, 74, Phelps, Wis., died Feb. 8, 2011, in Iron River, Mich.

She was born July 6, 1936, in Anderson, Ind. She treasured her role as wife to her devoted husband Max Hurd, to whom she was married for 51 years. While living in Anderson, Joyce was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, sharing her sewing and designing skills creating church vestments and hangings for the church. She worked as church secretary and then worked for Delco Remy as an administrative assistant. After retiring from Delco Remy, she moved to her beautiful Smoky Lake in Michigan. She enjoyed taking walks, particularly along the lake shore, and collecting beautiful things from nature. She loved spending time with and making things for her family, including cooking delicious meals and lovely handwork. Joyce will be remembered for her kindness and gentleness.

Her surviving family are her husband, Max Hurd; daughter, Susan (Tom) Gourley; sons, Neil Hurd and his partner Becky Van Camp, and David Hurd. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn Tracy; and her grandchildren, Ava and Ella.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Irene Harp.
