Afert WWII, Melvin worked for the federal government and did the surveying before Benbrook Dam in Ft. Worth, Texas was built. He then became an educator, teaching math in the Ft. Worth Independant School District at Handley Jr./Sr. High School and Eastern Hills High School. IN 1969, he obtained employment as an assistant professor at the newly built Tarrant County Junior College
