The Snyder family moved to Silverton March 8, 1933. Dan graduated from Silverton High School in 1936 and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps where he served two years in Camp 928 at Zigzag and two years in Vancouver. He received a personal commendation June 2, 1938, from Gen. George C. Marshall. Dan served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He attended a party Dec. 8, 1950, at the home of Gene and Ruth Slick in Oregon City. There he met Helen L. Wilson, daughter of Alonzo and Mary (Burger) Wilson. They married Jan. 21, 1951, in Salem. Dan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Willamette University in 1953 with a degree in business administration. He retired as secretary-treasurer for Stayton Canning Co. In 1953 Dan and Helen had daughter Becky and in 1962 they adopted 4-year old Mike. Helen died in 1985. Dan was a member of First Presbyterian in Salem for over 50 years, where he served as Deacon. He delighted in contact with his 42 nieces and nephews and their families, and they, in turn, cherished their "Uncle Danny."
Dan is survived by Becky and Billy Davis; and Mike and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam (1883-1948) and Etta (1884-1965); and siblings, Blanche Fryberger (1904-1995), Tom (1905-1973), Charmaine Weigel (1907-2001), Ethel Carson (1908-2003), Abe (1910-2003), Verna Orr (1911-1984), Paul (1913-1982), John (1915-1981), Russell (1917-1987), James (1921-1988) and Mary Etta Johnson (1923-2003).
