COUNTY MOURNS DEATH OF LIFELONG RESIDENT

GEORGE HAEHL PASSED AWAY EARLY SUNDAY
MORNING AT HOME IN UNION TOWNSHIP.

George Haehl, lifelong resident of Union township, and one of the staunch aged citizens of this community, passed away at 3:20 o'clock Sunday morning of a complication of disease from which he had suffered for some time. His death, altho not entirely unexpected, is deeply mourned and regretted by his hundreds of friends in Shelby county, where he had been actively engage in agricultural circles for a lifetime.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 o'clock Tuesday monring at the Zion Evangelical church in Union township, with the Rev. Sam Caldemeyer, of Mr. Vernon, former pastor of the Zion church, officiating. Burial will be made in the church cemetery, in charge of R. T. Stewart, funeral director. The cortege will leave the late home at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning.
Mr. Haehl was a son of the late John Henry and Mary C. Haehl, and was born in Union township, Jan. 6, 1849, and at the time of death was seventy-five years, nine months and five days old.
He received his education in the common schools of Shelby county, and spent his youth at home, working on the farm. When he reached manhood, he was united in marriage with Miss Katherine Kuhn, on Dec. 7, 1871, she being the daughter of Andrew and Anna Mary Kuhn.
To this union, 11 children were born, 10 of whom survive. Besides the widow, he leaves five daughters, Mrs. Jacob Gahimer, of Union Township, Mrs. Argos Wagner and Mrs. Julius Theobald, of Rush county, and Mrs. Flora Callahan, and Mrs. Ella Fuchs, of Liberty township; five sons, Henry, John R., Robert D., and Walter A., Haehl, of Union township, and William W. Haehl, of Rush county. He also leaves 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
