W.E. (Blondy) Andrews Dies; Rites Wednesday

W.E. (Blondy) Andrews, Childress County farmer and stockman, died at 5:15 p.m. Monday at the Childress General Hospital.

He was 76 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Joe S. Allen, pastor, assisted by Dr. J.E. Shewbert, pastor of the First Methodist Church.

Burial will be in the Childress Cemetery by Newberrys.

Pallbearers will be Truman McFarland, Bruce Parr, Donald Black, W.A. Lambert, Bill Moore, Truman Kidwell, Dewey Smith and Leon Henley. Members of the Palmer Massey Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church of which he was a member are to be honorary pallbearers. The casket will not be opened at the services, it was announced.

Mr. Andrews was born July 25, 1893, in Marion, La., and came to Childress County in 1912 from Marion. He worked for an uncle, Dan Abbott, for a while, was ranch foreman for Wade Brothers a short time, worked at the Fort Worth and Denver Shops and then for Davis Auto Company for 17 years.

In 1934 he moved to the High Point Community to farm.

He was a leader in farm activities and helped organize and served on the boards of several, including the Gate City REA, the Red River TV Translator Association, the Farm Bureau and the Farmer's Cooperative Cotton Gin.

He was a member of the Baptist Church and the American Legion; having served in World War I.

Mr. Andrews was married to Mattie E. Cox April 24, 1922, in Childress.

Survivors include his wife of the home, two sons, Claude of Childress and Bob of Iradell, Texas; two brothers, Lemon A. Andrews of McLean and Tom Andrews of Marion, and two grandsons.

Memorials may be sent to the Baptist Church building fund of the American Cancer Society.
