Darl was the 5th of 10 children born to his parents in Grant Co., Indiana. His parents both had the same great grandparents; William W. Stevens and Mariah Catherine Hamilton.

He enlisted during 1945 at the age of 17, served as a Medical Aidman assigned to Headquarters Company from Camp A. P. Hill, Virginia. He saw duty in World War II and Vietnam.

Darl Phillip Stevens

Darl Phillip Stevens, 63, of Sparta died Sunday, Sept. 9, at a Richmond hospital.

Born in Indiana, Mr. Stevens had worked as a security guard in Ashland. He was a World War II and Vietnam Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dessie Mae Stevens; a son, Jerry Chinault of Sparta; three brothers, Merrill Stevens of Jacksonville, Fla., Eldon Stevens of Portland, Ind. And Wayne Stevens of Marion, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Elda Mae Bunch and Mrs. Elva Booker, both of Marion, Ind.; two grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Powell Funeral Home in Bowling Green with the Rev. Gene Ryckman officiating. Burial will be in the Chinault family cemetery in Sparta.

Pallbearers will be James Martin, Danny Wright, James Wright, Keith Chinault, Shane Chinault and David Parish.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
