BRIDGEWATER, Nov 6...James Monroe Alden, a direct descendant of John and Pricilla Alden, in the sixth generation, passed away late yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clarence Sturtevant of Bedford street, Bridgewater, aged 84 years, 11 months and 26 days. Mr. Alden was born in Middleboro, Nov 9, 1823, and lived there until 1849. He left in 1849, for the California gold fields but returned in a few years, and married Miss Mary Brooks Clark of Middleboro. Their children are C.H. Alden of Brookline, Mrs. Clarence Sturtevant of Bridgewater, Mrs. Gad Robinson of Brockton, Mrs. James Doty, Jr., of Seattle and D. Albert Alden, also of Seattle. Mr. Alden was one of the first subscribers of the Pratt free school of North Middleboro and was for many years a member of the Congregational church of that town. He was the owner of property in Middleboro bought of the Indians by the Aldens. For the past 10 years he has resided with his daughter, where he died. The funeral will be in charge of the Rev. Mr. Lytle of the Middleboro Congregational church and will be strictly private, in accordance with the dying request of Mr. Alden and of the family.
