James Emery Mitchell, 65, of Joliet died at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, in Newton.

Mr. Mitchell was born May 4, 1934, in Jasper County, the son of Clyde and Marie (Wiyatt) Mitchell. He married Carolyn Barkley. She died. He married Nancy A. Newman.

He was a mathematics teacher at Joliet West High School for 27 years until his retirement and was a real estate agent since 1976, currently with Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell.

Survivors include his wife; son, James A. (wife, Robbin) of Wheaton; daughters, Mrs. Greg (Pamela) Alton of Joliet, Mrs. Michael (Miriam) Leitschuh of Ballwin, Mo.; father and stepmother, Clyde and Mabel Mitchell; brothers, Edward of Rose Hill, Kenneth of Las Vegas, Nev.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother.
