HAROLD C. PEART
Harold C. Peart, 64, of 104 Coulter St., a clerk at the Bennington Post Office for 28 yars before his retirement in 1963, died suddenly at his home early Sunday night. He had suffered from a heart condition for seveal years and he had been confined to his home most of the time during the past year.
Mr. Peart was born in Bennington Sept 11, 1899, son of the late William and Elizabeth Peart. He had attended local schools and was a graduate of Bennington High School in 1917. He was also a graduate of Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y., school of architectural construction, and had been skilled in draftsmanship and designing.
In his younger years he had been employed at the old Charles Cooper Co. He was appointed a clerk at the local post office in Jul, 1935, and served until March, 1963, when ill health forced his retirement.
He married the former Miss Rose M. Hayden on June 20, 1926 in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. James Elmer McKee officiating. They have always made their home in Bennington.
A former member of Mt. Anthony Lodge F&AM, he had also once belonged to the Lodge of Perfection. While on duty at the postal service, he was affliated with the Bennington Post Office Association and also with the state clerks' unit.
his interest had been manifest in sports, especially in baseball and football while he was in high school. He had continued to be a sports fan, watching many of the major league clashes on television.
His longtime faithful service at the local post office was recognized at the time of his retirement.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Noreen of Boston, Mass.
The funeral will be held in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, of which he was a communicant Tuesday at 2 pm. The Rev. Frederick B. Wolf, rector, will officiate. Burial will be in the Village Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9.
