"Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church for Mrs. Merle M. McCoy 68, who died Wednesday. The Rev. Cecil Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call Friday afternoon or evening at the Welter Funeral Home.
Merle M. Mitchell was born Aug. 4, 1894, to George and Lillian Mitchell at York, Wis. She moved to Danvers, Minn., as a young girl and came to Huron in 1918 to teach school. She married John H. McCoy [sic] at Benson, Minn., and they made their home at Wolsey until 1921 when they moved southeast of Huron where they farmed. Her husband preceded her in death in 1955 at which time she moved to Huron.
Mrs. McCoy was a member of the First Methodist Church, WSCS, Mizpah Chapter No. 9 Order of Eastern Star, and was president of the Huron unit of Shrine Auxiliary to Crippled Children at the time of her death.
Survivors include one son David, Oconomowoc, Wis.; three daughters, Shirley, Mrs. George Moore, Forestburg; Eunice, Mrs. J. Duane Colburn, Brookings; Isabel, Mrs. James L. Hanson, Huron; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Fred C. Steuerwald, Wolsey; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Leo Lennessey, Benson, Minn., and Miss Georgia Mitchell, Danvers, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son Dwight, her parents, two sisters and one brother."
