Jose R. Alvarez-Casas, 72, of Pekin, IL passed away peacefully at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 16, 1938, in Matanzas, Cuba, to Jose R. and Juana Luisa (Casas) Alvarez-Sanchez. He married Theresa on Nov. 3, 1962, at St. Henry Catholic Church in LeClaire, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Theresa of Pekin; and four children, Stephanie (Gregg) Dominick of Cleveland, Ohio, Jose R. (Crystal) Alvarez-Casas III of Chaska, Minn., Michelle (Bill) Farris of Manito, Ill., and Matthew Ryan Alvarez-Casas of Towanda, Ill. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Monique and Sonya Dominick and Ashley and Elle Alvarez-Casas; several cousins in Miami, Fla.; and his beloved pets, Coco, Vanessa and Milo.

Jose became a naturalized citizen in 1971 and worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 35 years, last as a staff instructor, before retiring in 1999.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, the Knights of Columbus and the Early Ford V-8 club.

He was an avid street rodder and loved to rebuild old cars his way. Jose also enjoyed traveling, hunting and photographing his wife's garden.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who was very proud of his family.

Jose's family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support over the last year.

Cremation rites will be accorded and a private memorial service will be held at Woolsey Funeral Home in Pekin.
