Funeral services for Billie Jo Caperton Cowan, 60, of Campbell were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pemberton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cecil Hyatt officiating. Burial was in the Rosemond Cemetery.

Billie was born in 1925 in Delta County, Texas to Eddie Lee and Clara White Caperton. she attended Commerce schools, received her bachelors degree from East Texas State in elementary education and her Masters in Library Science from Sam Houston State University. Billie is predeceased by her parents, brothers Hugh, Bill, and Shelby Caperton, and sisters Ruby Haddock, and Christine Miller.

Mrs. Cowan died Friday in a Dallas hospital. She married Homer Glen Cowan on August 27, 1948 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas

She and her husband, Glen returned to Commerce after 37 years of teaching in the elementary grades in public schools in Robstown, Hillsboro, Brazosport, Richardson, and as school librarian in Huntsville, and Huntington school districts, she was a member of Commerce First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Homer Glen Cowan, a brother James Clyde Caperton, Shelby Caperton, and sisters Christine Caperton Miller and Ruby Caperton Haddock.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Hugh Jim Caperton, and Raymond William "Bill" Caperton.
