BATTLE LAKE, MINN. - Chester Warren Herness, 72, passed away Friday evening, January 23, 1998, at his home.
He was born May 31, 1925, in Eagle Lake Township, Rural Battle Lake, Minn., to Christian and Wilma (nee: Thompson) Herness. He was baptized and confirmed in Trefoldighed Lutheran Church and attended rural school at District 6 in Eagle Lake Township. On October 24, 1952, he married the former Bonnie Listrom in Battle Lake, Minn. Following their marriage, they moved to Racine, where they lived for 45 years. Warren was employed with Walker Drop Forge for 30 years, retiring from there in une of 1988. They then began spending summers at their farm in Eagle Lake Township and in May of 1997, moved to the farm. In September of 1997, they moved to a home in Battle Lake. Warren enjoyed working with ceramics and at times would make his own molds.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Battle Lake, Minn.; a daughter, Pam (Erv) Trosdahl of Battle Lake; three sons, Bill (Robin) Herness, Wally (Kelly) Herness and Harley Herness all of Racine; eight grandchildren, Brad (JoAnne), Brent and Rachael Trosdahl, Tracy, Jeremy, Kevin, Lane and Paul Herness; a sister, Bernice (Ardell) Kluver of Alexandria, Minn.; a brother, Lyman (Fern) Herness of Battle Lake and a sister-in-law, Gladys Herness of Fergus Falls, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lorie Herness in 1979; and a brother, Lester Herness.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 26, 1998, at 10 a.m. at the Leaf Mountain Lutheran Church of rural Clitherall, Minn. with Rev. Mark Tiede and Rev. Connie Tiede officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation was held on Sunday.
