Swedish records indicate he was born Samuel Aron in 1871, not 1870 as shown on the gravestone.

Aaron and his parents and siblings emigrated on 7 January 1884, via Trondheim, with the destination of Evansville, Minnesota. They began to use his mother's surname (Edman) in Minnesota.

He and Anna Glebe married on 25 October 1903 and had seven children. Following her death during the Spanish Flu pandemic, he had two more short-lived marriages. He farmed in Leaf Mountain and Eagle Lake, Minnesota.
