Daughter of Nettie and Elmer Shores. Husband of Charles "Charley" Ausmus. Mother of Diane (Bond), Barbara (Robins), and Charlene (Plett). Sister of Hollis, Howard and Hazelle (Peterson). Avis was born on December 31, 1922 in Texas County Oklahoma. Avis grew up on the family farm between Guymon and Boise City. She graduated from Guymon Oklahoma High School in 1941. Avis married Charley Ausmus in Liberal, Kansas on January 17, 1942. Avis and Charley lived and farmed in Beaver County for 38 years before retiring to Mesa, Arizona in 1978. Avis was a member of the Bethel Church of God near the farm, the East University Church of God in Mesa, AZ, and the First Christian Church in Laverne, Oklahoma. During their retirement years Avis and Charley traveled the country visiting friends, her children and grand children. Following Charley's death in 1992, Avis moved back to Oklahoma to be closer to her family. Avis was a strong christian woman and always knew and said "The Good Lord would take care of everything". She loved playing cards, playing the piano and singing christian hymnals.
