Philip Ingvald Hammer, died in a Topeka hospital where he was
admitted Feb. 6 after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage.
He was born May 25, 1894, on a farm East of Norway in Republic County
To Peter and Anna (Tosseland) Hammer. He married Ellen Larsen Jan 8, 1919. They were blessed with three children: Leo, Elaine and Merle.
He had lived in Topeka since 1944. He was an Army veteran of World
War I. He was a house building contractor about 50 years and
was a member of the Topeka Homebuilders Association before he retired
in 1970.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church at Norway and Local
No. 1445 of the Carpenter's Union in Topeka.
He was married 1st to Ellen Larsen January 8, 1919, they were later divorced. He was married to Elsie Laubach Aug. 27, 1944, at Okeene, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Leo Hammer, Littleton, Colo., and Merle Hammer, Topeka; a daughter, Mrs. Elaine Walser, Des Moines, Iowa; two
brothers, the Rev. Norman Hammer, Honolulu, and Porter Hammer, Norway;
two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Johnson, Courtland, and Mrs. Nellie Darlington, Shamrock,
Tex.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
