Sam Edward Ross was born in 1879 in Madison County Arkansas, one of 11 children born to John Marion Ross and Queen Victoria Swearingen. His siblings included George Washington, Sarah Maudie, Francis, Sarah T., Frank, Isabel Columbus, Emma, Albert, John Franklin, and Joseph Angulus. In 1880, the family was living in Prairie, Arkansas (Madison County), where they were farming. The household consisted of John Ross, age 36; Queen V, age 25; Sarah, age 7; George W., age 6; Sarah T, age 3; and Samuel E., age 1.

Services for Sam Edward Ross, 70, will be at 2:30 p. m. Monday in the Lexington Baptist church. He died Friday in his home in Lexington following an illness of two weeks. Burial will be in the Lexington cemetery. Survivors include four brothers, George Ross, Lexington; Albert Ross, Virginia; Frank Ross, Glendale, Ariz., and Joe Ross, Lebanon, Ore., and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Airsman, Buckhorn, N. M., and Mrs. Frances McNeil, Eakley, Okla.
