Mrs. Ida Alsop, 87, died shortly after midnight Thursday at the Burton Nursing Home in Cynthiana, where she had been a patient since last November. She had been in ill health for many years and bedfast the last several weeks. She was the widow of Louis M. Alsop, who died in October 1956. Mrs. Alsop was an aunt of Mrs. Herman Hidbrader, Stewartsville, correspondent for the NEWS.

A sister, Mrs. Molly Staley passed away two months ago.

Born in Harmony township near Winfield, the daughter of James and Mary Jane Odell, Mrs. Alsop spent her early life in that community. After her marriage, she resided with her husband on a farm in the Winfield area until they moved to a farm south of Wadesville. Her husband was at one time trustee of Center Township.

She moved to Poseyville with Mr. Alsop after his retirement in 1951. Her health failed shortly afterwards, and she was unable to participate in social activities that had meant so much to her. She was always a woman of warm friendliness, and in the last months of her life was always cheered immensely when visitors called. She was never so ill, a member of the family said but that her thoughts were not constantly with those she loved and their welfare.

Earlier in her life, she had been a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Werry Funeral Home in charge of Elder Leo Dodd of Eldorado, Ill., with burial in the Poseyville cemetery. Pallbearers, all nephews of the Mr. Alsop, were William, Robert, Everett, Courtland and Burnell Alsop and Earl Smith.

Surviving are a brother, Morris Odell of Route 1, a sister, Mrs. Kate Gwaltney, Evansville; three nieces, Mrs. Hidbrader and Mrs. Kathleen Camp of Poseyville and Mrs. William Scott, Harvey, Ill., and a nephew, Harold Cole, New Harmony.
