Former Alaska resident Richard A. "Dick" Brossow, 67, of Siletz, Ore., died Aug. 6, 2007, at his temporary home in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. A full-honors funeral was Sept. 21 at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. A wake was afterward.

Dick was born April 6, 1940, in Marshfield, Wis. He and his parents, Fred and Elsie Brossow, moved to Seward in 1947. In 1965, he moved to the Anchorage-Eagle River area, where he lived until 1985, when he left Alaska to work in the Lower 48. He married Ann Franklin and raised three children. He worked several jobs before finding what he loved in surveying. He worked on several projects, from the trans-Alaska oil pipeline to the New Waddell Dam in Arizona. Dick enjoyed his job as a land surveyor. He also was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and loved to hunt or just do target practice.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jerri and Kurt Braun of Soldotna; son, Ricky Brossow; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jennifer Brossow of Anchorage; grandchildren, Duane Braun, Annita Braun, James Brossow, Ambrosia Brossow, Ricky Brossow Jr. and Brayden Brossow; great-grandson, Bryce Braun; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Lola Brossow of Siletz, Gerald and Sharon Brossow of Renton, Wash., and David and Margaret Brossow of Corvallis, Ore. Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Duane Brossow, formerly of Seward. Donations may be sent to AVTEC in Seward to give young people the opportunity to learn and grow.
