Often listed as the successor to Jack Dragna as the boss of the Los Angeles Mafia group however it is unlikely that this extremely straight laced and sober character ever held such a lofty position within the criminal organization. The label of mob boss was applied to Desimone after he failed to adequately co-operate with law enforcement officials investigating the ill-fated Appalachian mob summit of 1957. Desimone was detained, questioned and ultimately indicted after he refused to divulge the purpose of the meeting. There is no disputing Desimone's presence at the conference however it is believed that his cousin Simone Scozzari long a power figure in Los Angeles rackets was the true leader of the L.A., family. Local authorities knew this and moved to have Scozzari deported in the early 60s. The events following the Appalachian affair lend credence to the notion that Desimone was framed or served as a front for Scozzari. With his legal practice ruined by the subsequent bad press, Desimone spent his waning years secluded in the Downey home he shared with his widowed mother until his own death in August 1967 at the age of 56.
