Murray Erle Grant, 80, of Rutland, died February 2, 2011, with his family by his side, at Mountain View Genesis Eldercare Network. He was born January 8, 1931, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Erle D. and Belle (Murray) Grant.

Mr. Grant graduated from Cass Technical High School, Department of Printing, and attended Wayne State University and Lowell Technological Institute. He worked his entire working life in the marketing of fine printing papers. He retired from Strathmore Paper Co., Westfield, Mass., as manager of advertising and sales promotion.

He served three years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as an instructor at the Army Security Agency School.

Mr. Grant was a life member of the Adcraft Club of Detroit and The International Engravers Graphics Association. He was an honorary life member of the University and College Designers Association.

Mr. Grant was a member of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ. He served as co-chair of the property committee and on the personnel advisory committee.

He was a volunteer at Rutland Regional Medical Center for many years.

Throughout his life, he was a railroad buff and model railroader. For many years, he maintained a hobby printing press called Mountain Dew Press of Montgomery, Mass.

He was a member of the Clan Grant Association of the United States.

Mr. and Mrs. Grant had their winter home in Sarasota, Fla., and their summer home at Heritage Hill in Rutland, Vt.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Marshall Grant of Rutland, Vt.; a son, Murray Grant II of Huntington, Mass.; two daughters, Loraine Fanion of Westfield, Mass., and Heather Grant of Northfield, Vt.; a stepson, Bradford Hammond of Danby, Vt.; a stepdaughter, Sandra Reardon of Rutland, Vt.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, George A. Grant, and two grandsons, Christofer Grant and Jesse Finsen.

The memorial service will be held Sat., February 5, 2011, at 3 p.m. in Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. John C. Weatherhogg, senior minister, officiating.

Following the service, there will be a collation in the church parlor.

There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery.

Tossing Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
