WILLIAM M. SMITH
Military Honors by William Shetts – Line post 96, American Legion marked the funeral if Corporal William M. Smith yesterday. The services were held at the home of the soldier's parents, 2632 South Adler Street. Burial was in Fernwood Cemetery. Members of Company G. 315th Infantry, of which unit Smith was a member, acted as pallbearers. Smith was killed near Verdun October 31, 1918.

NOTE:
Corporal William M. Smith was wounded near Verdun, France and died in Evac Hosp #15 Glorieux, Meuse on October 31,1918. He was buried in Grave #5 Row 88 in Glorieux, Meuse on November 1, 1918.
In 1921 his remains were brought home and on July 24, 1921 he was buried in his families plot in Fernwood Cemetery.
It took 100 years but my Grand Uncle finally got his marker. He is the only one in the plot who has one.
