Lucy Catherine Cooper, 83, of Rocky Mount, Va., died Saturday, March 20, 2010. She was born May 28, 1926, a daughter of the late George and Emma Cooper. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Roy Walter Cooper; three brothers, Victor Cooper, Leonard Cooper and Charlie Cooper; and sister, Nancy Cooper Wright; son-in-law, Mervin M. Peters; and stepgranddaughter, Melissa Sink. Lucy was a great mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Everyone loved Lucy! She loved to cook, bake and work in her flowers; she was a member of Furnace Creek Baptist Church for 58 years and loved her Sunday School Class, The Willing Workers. Lucy is survived by her son, Gary Walter Cooper, of Rocky Mount; her daughter and sonin-law, Carolyn and Winfred Naff, of Rocky Mount; granddaughter, Tammy Peters Hodges, of Union Hall; greatgrandchildren, Ashley Renea and Brenden Cole Hodges. She is also survived by her sisters, Blanche Willis, of Ferrum, Lula Snyder, of Rocky Mount; sister-in-law, Helen Cooper, of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews. Special family and neighbors, Gladys Lynch, Betty and Donald Maddy, Gail and C.W. Thomas, and Billy Lynch. Funeral services will be conducted from ConnerBowman Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, with the Rev. Michael Lawhorn and the Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in the Furnace Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials can be made to the Furnace Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or the Melissa Sink Memorial Scholarship Fund at any BB&T Bank.
