Oscar "Sug" Hendrix Sr., 93, died early Tuesday morning in a local nursing home after a long illness. The Bulloch County native had lived in Statesboro most of his life. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and was a member of the Bible Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Oscar Hendrix Sr., Statesboro; three daughters, Mrs. Cora Lee Goddbee, Statesboro, Mrs. Maggie Blackburn, Pt. Wentworth, and Mrs. Virginia Young, Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Wilmer Hendrix, Savannah, and Oscar Hendrix Jr., Statesboro; also 19 grandchldren, 21 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Smith-Tillman Mortuary in Statesboro with the Rev. Max Alderman and Dr. J. Robert Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro.
Active pallbearers will be Billy Tillman, A.L. Davis, Paul Smith, George Williams, Jerry Sharpe and Bill Anderson. The body will remain in the chapel of Smith-Tillman Mortuary until the funeral hour. Smith-Tillman Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
