Roy L. Jacobs, Jr., age 100, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2011. He was born in Waco, Texas on June 9, 1910 to parents Roy Livingston Jacobs, Sr. and Love Ethelyn (Scott) Jacobs. After high school, Roy worked his way through Baylor University and graduated in 1933 with a BBA degree.

Determined to have his own business, Roy moved to Houston, Texas in 1938 and opened one. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Roy closed his business and entered the Navy in March 1942. He served in New Orleans a short while and was transferred to Washington, DC, from there he transferred to serve on the staff of the Commander of the serve force of the Pacific fleet, where he served until the end of the war, As Lt. Cdr. one of his most interesting assignments was working with Adm. Rickover with of the atomic submarine force. They became great friends.

After the war, Roy returned to Houston and reopened his showroom on Main Street. His business flourished and the next several years Roy developed a fine company with showrooms and warehouses in Houston and Dallas which became a nationally recognized wholesaler and retailer of fine quality wall coverings. Roy's company was referred to as the "Neiman Marcus" of the industry with exclusive rights in five states for some products which are at home on the pages of Architectural Digest and covered walls of the Supreme Court, Hospitals and many state and public buildings in Texas including the Governor's mansion in Austin, Texas.

Tragically he lost his first wife and two children in 1963.

Roy was active in Houston Rotary Club 589 and the Executives Association since 1947and other civic organizations being well known for his expertise in golf and fancy wall coverings. He represented the Houston area Rotary Club in their world golf tournaments five times in all parts of the world. He was a low handicap golfer with many trophies and a record seven holes in one. Roy was also a licensed instrument pilot and flew his own Cessina 340 many hours and many places.

In 1980 representatives from Grow Chemical Company of New York purchased Roy's company. In about 1983 Roy moved to Horseshoe Bay where he purchased a fine home on the golf course. It wasn't long before he met a local beauty named Betty Rattan. A few years later, Roy and Betty were married being the first couple to married in the Sanctuary at the Church at Horseshoe Bay by Dr. Ken Forshee. Roy was quick to state that the marriage to Betty has been a honeymoon all the way.

In 1994, Roy and Betty purchased and developed a fine cattle ranch in Lampasas County and specialized in show quality Charlois cattle. They had kept their home in Horseshoe Bay and after 10 years, sold their ranch in 2004 and moved back to their home in Horseshoe Bay. He was an aggressive investor until the end. He was one of those people who excelled in any endeavor who will be missed by family and friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Love Ethelyn Scott and Roy Livingston Jacobs and two sisters, Dorothy E. Sumner and Love B. Haley.

Roy is survived by his loving wife and beauty he married 19 years ago, Betty Jacobs; a daughter; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6:00- 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at The Worship Place in Sun City with Dr. E.M. Hay officiating.

Roy will be buried in the family plot in Belton, Texas where his father and grandparents are buried with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Austin at Christopher House, 2820 E. MLK Jr. Blvd, Austin, Texas 78702.
