Passed away February 4, 2011 in Spokane, WA. She was born May 2, 1928 in Troy, ID to Harrison and Winnie Baker. She lived on the family farm until moving to Kendrick, ID during high school. She received her B.A. degree from Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, OR, her Master of Education degree from Whitworth College, and had completed much of the work for her doctorate at Whitworth and EWU.
She entered teaching in a private kindergarten after her own children were out of school. She taught Special Education and entered administration as the Principal of Garfield Elementary. She later moved to Hamblen Elementary as Principal, where she retired in 1985. She was selected as the first Distinguished Elementary Principal by her peers when the honor was established in 1983, and in 1984 was elected as the Regional Elementary Distinguished Principal.
She was active in the Spokane Symphony Association. The Friends of the Davenport, and was the Queen of the Red Hat Society -" Divas of Distinction. Her care and compassion were evident as she volunteered as a counselor for new cancer patients in Radiation Oncology at Sacred Heart Medical Center.
She is survived by her husband of 18 years, John R, Warn; daughter, Diana Marie Shore; son, Gregory T. Brown (Janna); granddaughter, Heather Marie Brown; great-granddaughter, Amiya Brown; stepsons, William Otto Warn III, Alan Mason Warn; stepdaughter, Debi Barrett; nieces, Jane Marie (Woerner) Fife, Anne Louise (Woerner) Rees; former husband, Thomas H. Brown; her dearest friend, Amanda Hargreaves; and her special friend Sally Brucker who has been so helpful.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Howard, Lawrence, Ralph and Eldon; a son, Gary D. Brown (who died in a helicopter accident during Bloomsday 1985 while working as chief photojournalist for KREM-TV). She was also preceded by husbands, Douglas Emery and George A. Smith; daughter-in-law, Lynn Jones-Brown (2007); granddaughter, Leslie Elizabeth Jones-Brown (2010); and sister-in-law, Mary Jane (Warn) Woerner (2003).
