Callie Viola Aylor Crook, longtime resident of Tom Green County died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the age of 96.

She was born Aug. 1, 1904, in Fort Worth to William M. Aylor and Emma Lloyd. She was the eldest of twelve children. The family moved near Eden when she was three weeks old. She grew up there and later in the Ray Community of Tom Green County.

After attending Howard Payne College she began teaching school in the Ray Community, then at Wall and Veribest.

On March 5, 1926, she married Otis Crook at Veribest. They moved to a farm near Wall in 1927 where they raised their family of three sons and a daughter. For over 70 years Mrs. Crook continued to live on the farm until the recent illness that caused her death.

Although she quit teaching to raise her family, Mrs. Crook maintained an active interest in schools even after her children graduated. She served as president of the Wall PTA for several terms in the 1940s and was a life member of the Veribest PTA. She was an avid gardener, raising vegetables and flowers, including orchids. She loved quilting and crocheting and gave many articles of her work to family and friends.

Mrs. Crooks greatest interest was in serving her Savior, Jesus Christ. She taught many Sunday school and Bible classes at Wall Baptist Church and later at Veribest Baptist Church, teaching until well past the age of 90. In fact, she was planning to start a Bible class in her home at the time of her last illness.

Mrs. Crook was preceded in death by her husband, Otis A. Crook; her daughter, Iris Jean Roark; and a son, Eschol A. Crook.

She is survived by two sons, Norman Crook and wife, Ruby, of Houston and Curtis Crook and wife, Margaret, of Jupiter, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Crook of Stella, Mo.; seven grandchildren, David Crook of Houston, Larry Crook and wife, Sylvia, of Gainesville, Fla., James Crook and wife, Robin, of Stella, Mo., Lisa Roark of New Orleans, Sallie Schnee and husband, Bill, of Glendale, Calif., Clay Crook and wife, Amanda, of Baton Rouge, La., and Leigh Hushower and husband, Mark, of Silver Springs, Ma.; eight great-grandchildren, Vanessa and Alexander Crook of Gainesville, Justin and Keely Crook of
