Funeral service for Perry Ellis Aunko, 73 of Tulsa will be at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, February 11, 2011 at True Love Church at 420 SW "G" Ave., Lawton Oklahoma with Elder Toby A. Blackstar and Evangelist Sharon Taptto officiating.

Mr. Aunko passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in Tulsa.

Burial will be at Saddle Mountain Kiowa Cemetery, North of Meers, under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

A prayer service will held at True Love Church on Thursday, February 10, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Perry was born on March 29, 1929 to John and Jessie (Aitson) Aunko. Perry began school at the long ago country school "101" at Saddle Mountain, and later went to Fort Sill Indian School, on to Bacone, where he played football. Perry was outstanding "Pugilist in the 40's, Golden Gloves, AAU, Boxing era. Fighting out of Chilocco, Perry hooked up with the late Eddie Washburn. Those were the days of Indian Boxers. He had good leadership quality and went to work in Muskogee and later to Tulsa. Perry married the love of his life, Wynona Yahola. Perry had a good acquaintance with many people and those who knew him called him "Little Brother". Perry appeared in the movie "The Legend of Billy Fail" Which he played the staring role of Billy Fail. He enjoyed singing as well as teaching the Kiowa Hymns. He loved Gourd Dancing. He served as arena director at many pow-wows. He enjoyed laughing, flirting and playing pranks.

He is survived by two daughters and son in law, Jean and Butch Gilliland, of Broken Arrow and LaDonna "Blondie" Beach, of Tulsa; his granddaughters, Melissa, Melody, and Heather; his grandsons, Neil Ellis, Leroy Ellis, Jesse, and Christian; five great grandchildren; his sister, Iona Mae Aunko Miller, of Fort Cobb; his brother, Timothy Aunko, of Tulsa; and a host of nieces, nephews from his wife's Creek side as well as a host of Kiowa nieces and nephews; and special friends from the "Dance Circle".

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wynona Aunko; two daughters, Geraldine and Gwendolyn; four sons, Terry Aunko, Herschel Aunko, Jonathan (Booger Dale) Aunko and Perry Ellis Aunko, Jr.; his sisters, Pearl Taptto, Ruby Hall-Zotigh, Julia Porter and two infant sisters; his brothers, Albert Aunko, John Aunko, Jr., and four infant brothers; his maternal grandfather, Lucius Ben Aitson, who was the first Kiowa Indian pastor of Saddle Mountain Kiowa Indian Baptist Church; his paternal grandfather, Aunko, who was the original Kiowa Calendar Keeper; his paternal great grandfather, Mae-Keen; cousins, Amos Aitson, Lavern Aitson and Joseph Aitson, Sr.; his friend, Evans Ray Satepauhoodle, whom he taught the a class of Kiowa language with in the Tulsa area; and a special friend, Betsy Wermy.
