Cecil "Shorty" Wayne Hendrix 82, of Prue, passed away January 31, 2011 at his home. He was born October 22, 1928 in Jordan, New Mexico to Henry and Wreathel (Knapp) Hendrix. Shorty served in the U.S. Navy from February 9, 1948 to September 2, 1950. During his time in the Navy he served on the USS Iowa. He enjoyed working on his ranch and did that for several years. On August 26, 1950 he married Grace "Gloria" Maude Koehl in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Gloria passed away January 3, 1991.

Shorty is survived by his son Earl Hendrix of Hamilton, Kansas, three daughters Kathy A. Hendrix of Bazaar, Kansas, Karen Hendrix of Osage, Oklahoma and Amelia Casebolt of Prue, and Nicky Surrett a granddaughter along with 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; and two brothers Billy and Nathan Hendrix.

Shorty was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gloria, sister McGehee, brother Albert and daughter Cecilia.

Funeral Services were Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Hominy at 10:00 a.m. Pastors Garry McDevitt, Bill Lay and Mark Formby officiated the service. Special speakers for the service were Rene Henry, Karen Hendrix and Fredrick Drummond. Vocalist was Matt Casebolt, singing "Strawberry Roan" and "He Walked on Water"; "An Empty Cot in the Bunk House Tonight" was also played. Casket bearers were Shorty's grandchildren.
