Enoch Elsworth Caster was born in Jay County, Indiana, the second of eight children to James Redman Caster and Maria Amanda Whipple Caster. He was 13 years old when his father died. He married Margaret Hannah Warner on October 6, 1906. He and Margaret being unable to have children of their own, took Margaret's first cousin's youngest child (Mildred A. Gibson) to raise when Mildred was 3, as Mildred's mother had died from typhoid. Enoch was a farmer. When he was 49 years old he suffered from a heat stroke and died after being outside farming.
