Guy Allen

Guy Allen was born December 8th, 1872, at Buffalo, Kan., his father, J.D. Allen was at that time a merchant at that place, having married Nettie Wiley December 1871. Mr. and Mrs. Allen moved to Fredonia and Mr. Allen entered the Wilson County Bank of which he was a cashier for a number of years. Guy was married to Lois Hudson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Hudson, of Fredonia, September 4th, 1895.

Guy was early in life a clerk in the Wilson County Bank, for years was assistant cashier, in the spring of 1905, he was made cashier of the bank, which position he held until his death, January 19th, 1908.

He was a modest, unassuming and kindly man, always courteous and accommodating, in his business career he never disapointed his numerous friends. His integrity was never questioned and his business ability was remarked by all who knew him, his future was one of the most promising and his early death fell like a funeral pall, upon his relatives and all who knew him. To know him, was to love and admire. It has been the lot of but few men to hold so many personal friends. he had been in failing health for a year or more but he never complained, his most intimate friends little dreaming, that the end was so near. After a serious illness of twelve days, his devoted wife, relatives and friends doing all that could be done, "he passed to that bourne from which no traveler returns."

In response to a telegram sent them by Dr. Wiley, uncle to the deceased, his father and mother raced half across the continent to reach his bedside, three days before the end. Aside from other numerous loving relatives, the deceased leaves a widow and three boys, Guy Hudson 11, James Dow 7, and Frank Wiley 6, to mourn him but for their consolation an unsullied name.

The funeral services at the home was conducted by the Reverends Creager of Howard and Estill and McFadden of Fredonia. The Masons and the M.W.A. marched in body to the cemetery. The services at the grave by the Masonic fraternity were beautiful and impressive.

Guy Allen's chapter of life is closed but his example and splendid character continue to live.
