Amelia Alles McDonald, 98, of Greeley, CO died at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, CO.

The Alles family farmed east of Greeley. When she was seven years old, she moved with her family to the Alles Farm, which includes present day Alles Acres. Amelia attended the college preparatory school in Greeley through 9th grade and because she was needed at home, received her high school diploma much later in life through a GED course at Aims Community College.

Amelia began working at the Denver Dry store at age 17 and later worked at J.C. Penney and helped with farm work. After the death of her parents, she transferred to the Penney's store in Lincoln, NE.

When World War II began, she joined other family members in California at the shipyards and enlisted in the Women's Army Corps. She served in a clinic in New York City while her husband served in England. After the war, they returned to Greeley and the family farm. Amelia later went to work at Joslins.

In retirement, she continued to garden and be involved in community activities with her family.

Born in Kersey, she was the daughter of the late Adam Peter and Mary Elizabeth (Doell) Alles. She married Charles J. "Mack" McDonald in Pine Camp, NY and he died in 1999.

Surviving are a daughter, Amelia Marie Wirth, and former husband, Carl; two grandsons; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Amelia was preceded in death by five brothers, Adam, Jacob (in Russia), Jacob (in Michigan), John and Victor; five sisters, Katherine "Katie" Dietz, Mary Loeffler, Lydia Miller, Victoria Willman and Charlotte Hill.
