Chico Enterprise-Record, October 2, 1959: "(Obituaries) Mary Ruth Lownsdale. Mrs. Mary Ruth Lownsdale, a resident of Durham for the past 28 years, died at the Enloe Hospital this morning after a short illness. Born in Emporia, Kansas, May 15, 1898, she was the daughter of William and Nancy Pickenpaugh. She spent her early life in Kansas. In 1916 the family moved to Whittier, Calif., where she finished high school and attended business college in Los Angeles. On Feb. 1, 1928, she married Charles H. Lownsdale in Placentia where they made their home for three years, moving to Durham in 1931. Survivors include her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Eloise Buresh, of Pomona; a sister, Mrs. Lois Jaquith, of Sacramento, and a brother, Richard H. Pickenpaugh, of Yacolt, Wash."
