Kentucky Death Certificate #18948.
Died after climbing on a tombstone in Bell's Mines Cemetery, the stone toppled over on her, curshing her skull.
Daughter of John Woodford Adamson, Sr. and Jettie Elizabeth Jones-Adamson.

THE CRITTENDEN PRESS ~ August 7, 1931.

An old fashioned tombstone, perched precariously on a sloping base, proved an instrument of death for little Mary Aline Adamson, five year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Adamson, of the Bells Mines community of this county.
Mary Aileen had accompanied her mother, Mrs. Jettie Jones Adamson, and her brother, Tuesday afternoon, August 4th, to the Bells Mines Cemetery where Mrs. Adamson went to place flowers on the grave of her brother, Jessie Jones. After visiting the Jones family lot Mrs. Adamson started through the cemetery. The children lingered a few steps behind their mother, playing among the monuments of the hillside. The little girl was evidently attracted by the marker erected to the memory of Mrs. Mary E. Chandler who passed away in 1887, for this monument, of the old fashioned square type, was about six feet high, towering among most of the surrounding ones. Throwing her little arms around the ten-inch spare shaft, her weight as she attempted to climb it unbalanced the shaft from the base causing it to topple forward, crushing the child's skull in the fall. Death came instantly. Cries of the frightened brother brought the mother immediately to the spot. Lifting the small body in her arms, she ran to her home some distance away, a tiny trail of blood marking her pathway. An examination showed that Mary Aline's skull was cracked completely across and one ear mangled.
Funeral services were held at Bells Mines Church Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Clyde Dempsey officiating.
Surviving relatives of the young victim of this unusual and tragic accident are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Adamson, and a little brother, John W.,Jr.
