Harry Milton Dahl was born August 4, 1919, to Selma (Henning) and Hans Dahl of rural Gatzke, MN. He attended school on the Randeen Ridge and graduated from the eighth grade at the Thompson School. After graduation, he farmed with his dad in rural Gatzke for several years. At 20 years of age, Harry served 7 months in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) performing guard duty and was stationed at Thief Lake near Middle River, MN. The next day, after an honorable discharge from the CCC, he entered into active service with the United States Navy. He actively served for 6 years in the United States Navy throughout World War II, serving on the USS Arkansas and the USS Intrepid achieving the rank of Boatswain's Mate First Class USN. While serving in the U.S. Navy, Harry earned one (1) American Defense star, five (5) Asiatic-Pacific stars, two (2) European Theater Operation Philippine Liberation stars, the American Area Victory Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Ribbon. On December 11, 1946, Harry was honorably discharged from the United States Navy. Harry saw the world when he was in the Navy. So, he had no desire to travel later in life, being satisfied with his family and his home.

On October 17, 1948, Harry married Gudrun Foss in Skime, MN. They lived on their farm in rural Gatzke where they raised their six children. During this time, Harry attended "Ag" School in Middle River. He farmed and worked as a logger. In addition to farming and logging, he worked at the Habstritt Seed House, Polaris, and Marvin Windows and Doors. He was a talented man who could accomplish anything he chose to tackle. Harry served on the Linsell Township Board for many years. Harry and Gudrun were both very patriotic and always exercised their right to vote. After Gudrun suffered an aneurysm, he became her caregiver for many years. Harry enjoyed visiting, making regular stops at several neighborhood places. He also enjoyed hunting seasons and riding his 4-wheeler to the family's hunting camps. Harry loved nature, the woods, and all of the outdoors.Harry was especially proud of his family and enjoyed being involved in their lives. He will be remembered as a warm-hearted, witty, special person. He was such an icon.

He is survived by his children, Pat (Bill) Westman of Roseau, Connie (Bruce) Nelson of Roseau, Debra (Larry) Rothenberger of Duluth, Betty Otto of Salol, Schell (Shirley) Dahl of Roseau, and Gregory Dahl of Thief River Falls; ten grandchildren, Ronda Westman (Laurent) Leduc, Chad (Shelli) Nelson, Kellie Nelson (Mike) Roth, Tony Rothenberger, Scott Rothenberger, Adam Dahl, Brock Otto, Ericka Dahl, Kristi Dahl (Chris) Wensloff, Amber Dahl Wensloff; ten great grandchildren, Kodi and Ian Nelson, Cheryl, Jade, and Kirsten Rothenberger, Madison Dahl, Brodie and Braydn Wensloff, Chad, Jr. and Victoria Wensloff; two step-grandchildren, Justin and Moriah Otto.
